Title: Developmental Pathways to Understanding Geospatial Representations

People come to know their worlds not only by directly interacting with their physical environments, but also by creating and using geospatial representations of those environments. Understanding geospatial representations draws on logical, symbolic, and spatial concepts that develop gradually during childhood. In this presentation I will focus on the relation between developing spatial concepts and the understanding of geospatial representations in general and maps in particular. Additionally, I will discuss work examining the origins of individual differences in these domains.
