Research Experience in Judgment and Decision Making

PSYC 353-301
Instructor:
Jonathan Baron
Instructor:

Time:
MW 2-3:30
Course Description:

We will do experiments using web pages, analyze the data, and write reports. One type of experiment will involve judgments about future events. We can pay outside subjects, but we will also use the class as subjects for these. Other topics of interest are moral judgment, and judgments about public policies.  Students will do projects as well as pre-set experiments. Projects may be done in small groups. The class will analyze data using R, "a language and environment for data analysis and graphics."  R is free, and students will use it on their own computers. R works with commands, not mouse clicking. Statistical methods taught will consist of data manipulation (aggregation, transformation, etc.), exploration of data with graphics, elementary presentation graphics (e.g., for papers), and some statistical methods beyond the introductory course, particularly multiple regression. (Other, specific methods may be needed for projects.)
