Special Topics in Developmental Psychology: Children at Risk

Course Description: 

Divorce, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty, and war form the backdrop of many children's lives. This course considers children's responses to such experiences from clinical, social, and developmental perspectives.  Special emphasis is placed on the contribution of family and the social environment to children’s well-being or distress, in the context of risk.  Students will study models for research, prevention, and intervention.

Prerequisite: 
Psychology 180 or 181 or permission of the instructor.
