This seminar will focus on controversial issues in the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders. We will review evidence and arguments for and against issues such as dissociative identity disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder), gender identity disorder, recovered memories, and other interesting controversial topics. Students will be expected to read and critically evaluate selected articles and contribute to an active discussion in class. The first few topics and readings will be selected and presented by the instructor but subsequent ones will be chosen by the students, who will engage the class in a discussion and debate. There will also be one paper assignment, based on a topic covered in class.
