Title: The stress and social context of depression
Abstract: In a 20-year longitudinal study of 800 families of depressed and never-depressed women, stress experiences and processes are explored as key predictors of the intergenerational transmission of depression.
Much of the stress, both acute and chronic, is interpersonal, and the study focuses on psychosocial and genetic contributors to social stress and depression in adolescence and the transition to adulthood.
